What are the major causes of dementia, brain and memory loss?
How to figure out why you or your loved one has memory loss
If you or your loved one is losing their memory, how do you stop the loss? You must be a detective and go down the list of what might be affecting your memory…one by one, and make changes. You must get to the basic cause or causes. There could be several underlying causes of what is happening to you.
Some of the more easily fixable causes are lack of sleep, having a junk food diet, too much sugar, dehydration, vitamin deficiencies and mineral deficiencies, medication side effects, and poor blood circulation.
Then we go into the extremely difficult causes related to diseases such as chronic pain, heart diseases, Alzheimer’s, Lewy body dementia, diabetes, Parkinson’s, Lyme disease, MS, cancer, chemo, radiation, cancer treatments, medication side effects, and more.
Concussions and falls are a whole other reason for memory problems.
Even having the common cold or flu affects brain function.
When you are not in optimal health, your brain function suffers.
Each disease affects your individual body, and your brain functions differently. The rate it compromises your brain and memory functions depends on the individual and how the disease presents itself, and the rate of damage it causes as it progresses. Every function, from breathing to moving the different body parts, needs communication from the brain.
You have to be willing to really investigate your lifestyle to get to the bottom of your memory problems and then do something concrete to change those factors.
It may take tests to determine if you have Parkinson’s or MS.
If you don’t know these lifestyle factors, such as dehydration, are causing problems, you can’t fix them.
If you have a urinary infection when you are an older person, you are missing a huge cause for your memory issues. If your medications are causing these problems, you need to talk to your doctor.
