My husband once had high blood pressure, migraines, and was a mess...what did he do to beat those health issues?
Read How did my husband overcome high blood pressure, migraines, and being over weight?
My husband and I met later in life. We have been married 16 years and together 20. He was not healthy when I met him. He suffered from debilitating migraines, and his doctor was not happy about his high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I went to his doctor with him. His doctor wanted to put him on more medicine. I told the doctor to give me 4 months to work on him. So, what did we do next?

I weaned him down from sodas and then off them completely.
I helped him lower the amount of coffee he was drinking to a reasonable level.
I made him realize that sugar and fast food were the culprits in his high blood pressure and high cholesterol. He used to be a binger, eating a whole package of cookies at a time.
The drug he was taking for his migraines, in fact, was making them worse. I helped him wean off the medication and then gave him herbs that reduce migraines over time. Now he doesn’t have them. He does get occasional headaches, but not migraines, and we deal with them with herbs.
His weight also came down as well.
I began cooking for him rather than his eating out or cooking the famous Marie Callender's pot pies.
His doctor was amazed when he came back.
Getting healthy is one step at a time. There is no magic wand; just taking one day at a time and changing the way you live and eat. I became his personal health coach and nutritionist. He cooperated and realized it was all good. When we go out now and for many years, he doesn’t even miss sodas. If we go to an event, he eats one or two cookies but doesn’t binge on them. He is pretty good on his own.
Change takes time! Exchanging bad habits for good ones takes effort and time. Next Substack is on reducing high blood pressure.
