Learn how Aloe Vera is an amazing treatment for different infections, not just burns!
Learn how aloe vera is an amazing treatment for many different infections and intestinal problems including fungal.
As an herbalist, I have used aloe vera as a burn and sunburn treatment for over 40 years. I remember when I first learned about herbs, and my youngest daughter stuck her finger into the cigarette lighter plug in the car dashboard, burning her finger. I used aloe immediately to alleviate her pain and heal her finger. I used aloe vera when my son touched his hand to a hot iron. I don’t think all those years ago, before computers were an everyday item, I investigated it much deeper than that. In the years since I didn’t either. It was my go-to therapy for burns and sunburns in my thinking.
It wasn’t until none of my usual go-to herbal treatments for my husband’s fungal arm infection didn’t work. A little voice kept saying, "Try aloe vera. “ After trying several other remedies, I listened, and boy am I thankful I did.
When I researched it recently, I was stunned by how much I had forgotten regarding aloe vera’s amazing anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fungal properties. You need to know this information.
What kind of fungal infections might be helped by aloe vera?
Most of us have had problems with one or more of these fungal infections listed below and have received no relief from the OTC medications.
Prescription fungal medications come with serious side effects, such as swelling, redness, burning, severe itching, and make the infection further resistant to treatment.
Aloe vera comes to the rescue!
Here is a list of fungal infections that should respond to aloe vera treatment:
Ringworm, nail fungus, athlete’s foot, jock itch, tinea capitis, barbae, and corporis, which affect the scalp; yeast infections, such as under the breast or in folds of skin; and fungal infections affecting your hands and body.

Are frequent cold sores a problem in your health issues? Try aloe vera!
Drinking aloe juice may help with the following health issues:
Systemic Candida.
Drinking 1-3 ounces of aloe juice daily aids digestion, supports immune function, and helps prevent fungal overgrowth. Start out drinking only 1 ounce of juice to begin with, to test your system to make sure you are not allergic to it. Make sure no latex is in your juice if you process your own aloe leaves. If you are going to use your own aloe gel, make sure you learn how to do this properly. If not processed the right way, it is unsafe to take internally.
DIGESTIVE complaints:
“One study reported in the Journal of Research in Medical Sciences found that 30 milliliters of aloe vera juice twice a day decreased the level of discomfort in 33 patients with irritable bowel syndrome. Flatulence also decreased for the participants, but stool consistency, urgency, and frequency remained the same. A 2018 meta-analysis that considered 151 IBS patients showed a significant difference for patients who used aloe vera compared to those with a placebo regarding improvement in IBS symptoms.
Aloe vera juice has also been used to soothe and heal stomach ulcers because it has antibacterial agents and natural healing properties that can restore the stomach lining back to health.” Dr. Axe on aloe vera benefits....excellent article
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD),
“Drinking aloe vera juice may improve symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), a chronic condition that causes inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract.17 Because aloe vera has laxative effects, it can relieve constipation caused by IBD.
Aloe vera juice also has anti-inflammatory effects that could benefit gut health.18 More research is needed to determine if aloe vera juice is a safe and effective treatment for IBD.” Very Well Health article
What properties make aloe anti-fungal, antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory?
Aloe vera contains over 70 plus active compounds to speed healing and fight infections and fungi, including vitamins and minerals that heal and rejuvenate skin healing; sugar and enzymes that help mend and heal the skin; saponins and salicylic acids that make up its antimicrobial effects.
Key antifungal properties include emodin, aloetic acid, aloin, anthracene, anthranol, barbaloin, chrysophanic acid, ethereal oil, esters of cinnamic acid, iso-barbaloin, and resistannol, which reduce inflammation, redness, swelling, and infection caused by different fungi.
Aloe Vera speeds wound healing by the glycoproteins it contains, which speed up new cell growth and increase blood flow to the injured skin area or wound.
Aloe is a potent antiviral containing aloe-emodin, which works against viruses including herpes, shingles, and other viral invaders.
Aloe vera’s potent antioxidant properties include Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, B12, folic acid, choline, and superoxide dismutase. I have used both aloe and colloidal silver on shingles years ago. Aloe contains important healing enzymes including aliiase, alkaline phosphatase, amylase, bradykinase, carboxypeptidase, catalase, cellulase, lipase, and peroxidase.
Important beneficial minerals in aloe vera include calcium, copper, selenium, chromium, manganese, magnesium, potassium, sodium, and zinc. These are important for healing skin and burned tissues.
Aloe contains at least 6 antiseptic agents that help enable your body to fight off viruses, different kinds of fungi, and bacteria. cinnamic acid, lupeol, phenols, salicylic acid, sulfur, and urea nitrogen.
How to apply aloe vera gel.
You simply wash the infected site first, then apply a layer of aloe gel to the site, bandage it if it is a wound, and reapply two or three times a day. Aloe spray works better if it is a large sunburn area. My husband did not find that the spray worked as well to relieve his burned arm from the prescription medicine. We had both gel and spray on hand.
Aloe vera as a cosmetic and skincare ingredient!
“Aloe vera was officially listed as a purgative and skin protectant by the U.S. pharmacopoeia in 1820 and was clinically used in the 1930s for the treatment of radiotherapy burns to the skin and mucous membranes. Today, cosmetic companies commonly add sap or other derivatives from aloe vera to a range of products, including makeup, soaps, sunscreens, incense, shaving cream, shampoos, tissues, and moisturizers. The plant is even used commercially as an ingredient in yogurts, beverages, and desserts.” from DR. AXE’s website, who has published the most in-depth article on aloe vera, which I strongly suggest you read in full.
Where is the latex found in the aloe vera plant leaf?
The latex is yellow and is found underneath the tough aloe green leaf skin. The aloe gel is clear, thick, jelly-like, and very sticky. Some aloe vera products contain both the latex and the gel.
Side Effects:
Aloe vera juice can exhibit a strong laxative effect, so be aware of that. Homemade aloe juice may contain latex, which can cause liver issues and worse if taken in large amounts. Aloe in capsule form, which I have never used, often contains the whole aloe plant, including the latex.
Talk with your doctor first before drinking aloe vera juice, especially if you are taking prescription medicine. You should talk to your doctor before giving aloe juice to your children. Avoid aloe vera juice if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant. If you have a sensitive stomach, try an ounce of aloe juice for several days before increasing that amount.
I hope this Substack made you realize how important it is to have aloe gel in your herbal medicinal supplies!
