A Tale of Missy the Cat Locked Up
How a cat survives being locked up for 5 days with the grace of God! Does God care about lost cats and the small things in life that are important to us but not in the worldy sense?
Today is Sunday, and I think we all need a true-life, feel-good story of a cat's survival with some help from God. Here it is and I hope you enjoy it! We have three semi-feral black cats who hang out at our house, eat well, and give the squirrels a run for their money. They never miss a meal and hang out in our garage at night. So about a month ago, on a Sunday, Missy didn’t show up. The first night, we didn’t get too upset. Afterall, they are free and live life on their own terms.
So Monday morning came, and no Missy. Monday night, no Missy. I knew then we had a problem. We live in a town neighborhood with lots of houses around us, and all have garages where kitties can get locked up. So I called animal control, TNR, and the street department. No cats run over. I then put notifications on our local Facebook pages. I did everything I could think of first. I also noticed that her brother and sister seemed to be roaming more. Perhaps that meant they knew where she was. After going up several alleys calling her name, it was not good.
It was now Thurs. My gut still told me she was locked up, but where? So that afternoon, we followed the cats around the block, and they hung out by the house where they were actually born under the porch at. We called, but no Missy. We waited until the woman came home to see if she would check her garage.
No missy. We then went to walk home and passed the house right behind our alley. The neighbor had told us these neighbors had left on vacation on Sunday, the day she disappeared. That house had garages on both the alley side and the street side. We had gone to the garage on the street side several times that week.
So we started calling, and sure enough, there was a faint meow. Now we knew where she was, but the neighbors wouldn't be back for another 4 days. She would have been dead by then. We went back to the neighbor where we had gone first to see if she could call the people on vacation.
She had a key to their garage and took us over. One happy yowling cat came running out. We took her home and thanked God for finding her before she roasted in there.
What is interesting is that the cats initially took us to the wrong house. But it was the right house to get her freed. The one house where the neighbor had a key to solve the dilemma. I knew she was locked up, and we had been all around those houses, but didn’t hear her at the time.
It seems we are sometimes so close to solving a problem but miss it over and over. I don’t think prayer is just for big problems. I feel God cares about lost cats. I prayed for help to find her. I prayed to hear her wherever she was locked up.
Prayer is for small things, too. I have learned to never give up with my prayers. Our male cat was locked up somewhere for two months. I never gave up. He came home 62 days later, almost dead from starvation. I continually prayed for God to help him get loose and to find his way home.
No one believed me when I knew inside my heart that he was still alive.
